The first book is The Second Bridegroom. As a whole this trilogy is an interesting read on colonial Australia, and the stories of the three generations are subtly tied in for a very nice effect.

I've read about five of his. I think this one stands out for me because it has the sharpest, most tightly constructed plot/5. The trilogy consists of three novels, all set in Yandilli trilogy book fictitious settlement of Yandilli, in New South Wales. The novels are set thirty years apart – with the first inthe second in and the third in The trilogy is on one level about the exploration of New South Wales (from its beginnings to the present), but it is not a simple recording of history, nor a travel guide.
It is, instead, a complex, stylized interrogation of the meanings of place, family, and art - and the inevitable mystery of this interrogation.
